Since OS X 10.8, when iCloud Documents & Data is enabled in System Preferences, the default save location for document-based apps is always iCloud. To change this, follow the instructions below.
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
Enter defaults write com.metaclassy.byword NSDocumentSaveNewDocumentsToCloud -bool NO
Restart Byword.
Byword for iOS does not have support for rich text (rtf) documents in current version (1.0), so they are not listed when syncing documents created on Byword for Mac with iCloud and Dropbox. Only plain text are synced across all devices.
The lack of support for rich text is due to technical limitations and limited development resources. We are evaluating the cost/benefit of investing in rich text support of iOS. Meanwhile, we strongly recommend opting for plain text and Markdown format for your documents. Macworld has a great article explaining why opting for plain text today is a good idea.
When trying the render a Markdown preview in case-sensitive file systems, Byword will display an error saying The content generated by MultiMarkdown was invalid or empty. To workaround this you need to install an external version MultiMarkdown following the instructions below.
Download and install MultiMarkdown-Mac package
Download and install MultiMarkdown-Support-Mac package
Make sure you install both packages from your OS X user only.
OS X Lion full-screen mode is not very friendly to dual-monitor setups. If you wish to enable the same full-screen mode Byword used on OS X Snow Leopard, follow the instructions below.

Close all Byword windows and restart Byword.
Repeat using NO to revert to OS X Lion default full-screen mode.
Open Terminal.app (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app)
